Indian Country Child Molester Sentenced to Prison

Acting U.S. Attorney Thomas Scott Woodward announced that a 79-year-old man was sentenced to federal prison today for the sexual abuse of young Indian children.

Edward O’Field, an Indian male from Colcord, Oklahoma, was sentenced to 71 months in the Federal Bureau of Prison plus ten years of supervised release and he must register as a sex offender. O'Field was charged in a Grand Jury Indictment issued in March 2009 and he pled guilty last April. He admitted to engaging in sexual contact with a 2-year-old Indian child on February 1, 2009, where his conduct involved the intentional touching of the child’s private parts for the purpose of gratifying his sexual desires. Furthermore, he admitted to molesting a 4-year-old child in 2008, where he used his fingers to fondle the child’s private parts.

The defendant has a lengthy history of sexually abusing young children. During the investigation and prosecution of these latest offenses it came to light that O’Field had molested at least six other children over 30 years ago and the victims are now adults.

Acting U.S. Attorney Woodward thanked the work of investigators in this case from the Cherokee Nation Marshal’s Service and the FBI. Also, the Tulsa Justice Center was instrumental in interviewing the children. Woodward further stated, “For the last 30 years this individual has preyed upon young children. Today, justice was served and a dangerous predator was taken off the streets.”

The prosecution of the case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney R. Trent Shores.
