City Woman Pleads Guilty to Bank Robbery

Oklahoma City, OK—This afternoon, BRIONA MARIE OATES (a/k/a Briona Matthews), 30, of Oklahoma City, pled guilty to bank robbery before United States District Judge Joe Heaton, announced John C. Richter, United States Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma. As part of the plea agreement, Oates agreed to pay restitution in the amount of $10,744 for four separate bank robberies including:

  • March 4, 2009, robbery of BancFirst located at 11001 N. May Ave., in Oklahoma City
  • March 10, 2009, robbery of J.P. Morgan Chase Bank located at 12324 N. May Ave., in Oklahoma City
  • March 12, 2009, robbery of  First Fidelity Bank located 2825 N.W. 164th Street in Edmond
  • March 19, 2009, robbery of Bank of the West located at 12000 N. Penn. in Oklahoma City

At sentencing, which has been set by the court for September 2, 2009, Oates faces up to 20 years in federal prison plus a $250,000 fine.

This case is a result of an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Oklahoma City Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Andre’ Caldwell.
