OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—Earlier today, MARK EDWARD BROWN, 37, of Oklahoma City, was sentenced by United States District Judge David Russell to serve 384 months in federal prison for the October 31, 2001, armed robbery of the Relevant Products business in Oklahoma City. Brown was convicted by a jury on November 4, 2008. Evidence at trial showed that Brown entered the Relevant Products business, located at 4301 N. Santa Fe, in the early morning of October 31, 2001, asking for a job application. Brown then pulled out a handgun, pointed it at the business employee asking for the lockbox. Evidence showed that after he was not able to obtain money or the employee’s jewelry, Brown struck her about the head with the handgun and left. Investigators were later able to obtain a fingerprint from the job application, matching it to Brown, and the victim identified Brown in a photo lineup. At the sentencing hearing today, Judge Russell took into consideration Brown’s extensive criminal history, including two federal convictions out of the Northern District of Oklahoma for robbing a bank with a gun in 2007 and an attempted robbery of a grocery store with a gun in 2006. Judge Russell ordered Brown to serve 384 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release. The case is the result of an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Oklahoma City Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Edward J. Kumiega and Mark Yancey. |
