Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – Today, DANIEL TIMOTHY JOHNSON (a/k/a “Timothy Barns”), 25, of Bethany, Oklahoma, was sentenced to serve 46 months in federal prison, followed by three years supervised release, for copyright infringement and piracy of Microsoft computer software, announced John C. Richter, United States Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma. Johnson was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $553,859.10 to Microsoft. From 2007 through 2008, Johnson acquired Microsoft software products and, together with using the volume product license key obtained from his employer, sold the software products for personal profit through the internet to unsuspecting purchasers. Johnson was charged with copyright infringement in September of 2008 and pled guilty that same month. As part of his plea agreement, Johnson agreed to forfeit the items listed below which he admitted were used to facilitate his software piracy scheme or represent proceeds of his crimes: a. 10 copies of Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003 b. 11 copies of Microsoft Office Project Standard 2003 c. 19 copies of Microsoft Office Small Business d. 5 copies of Microsoft Windows System Resource Manager e. 7 copies of Microsoft Office Project 2007 f. 38 copies of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 g. 20 copies of Microsoft Windows Vista Business Upgrade h. 5 copies of Microsoft Windows Vista Business i. 2 copies of Microsoft Office Project Professional 2007 j. 4 copies of Microsoft Office Standard 2007 k. 1 copy of Microsoft Visio Professional 2007 l. 1 copy of Microsoft Visio Professional 2003 m. 1 copy of Microsoft Vista Ultimate n. 1 copy of Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 o. 127 copies of Microsoft Office Professional Enterprise 2003 p. 5 copies of Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003 q. 1 tree of four Dell monitors r. 1 NeoFlex dual monitor stand and 21" monitors s. 1 Netgear Router S/N 18R47A7B18006 t. 1 miscellaneous cables and KVM switch u. 1 leather messaging recliner v. 1 iPhone with power cord w. 1 pair 2.4 ctw diamond earrings x. 1 Antec computer y. $153,601.31 seized by way of seizure warrants Johnson was ordered to report to the Bureau of Prisons on March 19, 2009, to begin serving his sentence. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Susan Dickerson Cox. **End**
