FORMER TREASURER OF CHEYENNE-ARAPAHO TRIBES SENTENCED FOR EMBEZZLEMENT OF CASINO FUNDS |
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – John C. Richter, United States Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma, announced that Edward Dunn Whiteskunk, 51, of Hammon, Oklahoma, was sentenced today to serve 1 year and 1 day in prison and pay $98,865.97 in restitution to the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes. Whiteskunk plead guilty in February 2008 in federal court before U.S. District Judge Robin Cauthron on a single count of embezzlement of $5,919.00 of Cheyenne-Arapaho Tribal funds taken from the Lucky Star Casinos in July 2003. Whiteskunk previously had served on the Cheyenne Arapaho Business Committee and also as the Tribes’ treasurer for approximately two years. Whiteskunk was ordered to pay a special assessment of $100 and to serve a three-year term of supervised release which will begin after his prison term is completed. The case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jim Robinson. |
