MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA - Sheldon J. Sperling, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, announced today that DARLA KAY SMITH, a/k/a DARLA KAY HUDDLESTON, age 47, of Sulphur, Oklahoma, was sentenced to five months imprisonment, 36 months supervised release, of which five months is to be on home detention monitoring, and ordered to pay restitution of $36,096.03 to the Muscogee Creek Nation.
“In September 2006, the defendant pled guilty to Embezzlement and Theft from Indian Tribal Organizations, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1163,” stated U.S. Attorney Sperling. “The charges arose from an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In 2004, the defendant embezzled approximately $60,000.00 from the Okemah Smoke Shop, an Indian Tribal Organization, where she was in a position of trust as a manager of the smoke shop.”
“The Honorable James H. Payne, United States District Judge in the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over today’s sentencing. Assistant United States Attorney Dean Burris represented the government.”
