LAWTON MAN TO SERVE 30 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR SEXUAL EXPLOITATION OF CHILDREN

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
– John C. Richter, United States Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma, announced that DWAIN PAUL MCCOY, 42, of Lawton, was sentenced yesterday by United States District Judge Vicki Miles-LaGrange to serve 360 months in prison for  sexual exploitation of two minor children.

“Every image of child pornography depicts a crime scene,” said U.S. Attorney John C. Richter.  “This sentence sends a strong message that there are severe consequences for those who produce, trade, and possess images of children being sexually exploited.  I commend District Attorney Robert Schulte and the Lawton Police Department in this case as it demonstrates a model of federal, state, and local law enforcement collaboration and cooperation that is critical to ensure that child sexual predators are brought to justice.”

McCoy was originally indicted in March of 2007.  A superseding indictment was filed in July 2007 charging McCoy with taking digital photos of his penis near the face, hands and feet of two children, one approximately 8 years old and the other 10 years old.  He was also charged with possession of more than 300 images of child pornography.  In August, McCoy pled guilty to sexual exploitation of children.

At the sentencing hearing, McCoy acknowledged that he has been previously convicted of sexual assault of a child in Colorado. At the conclusion of his 360 month prison sentence, Judge Miles-LaGrange also ordered McCoy to serve five years supervised release.  He will also be required to register as a sex offender.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorneys Offices, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children, as well as identify and rescue victims. The case is the result of cooperative law enforcement efforts by the Comanche County District Attorney’s Office, the Lawton Police Department, Robert Schulte, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sanford C. Coats and Robert Don Gifford.
